Everyday individuals who suffer from mental illness are arrested, thrown in jail or even killed by our Law enforcement system. This must STOP!
Mental illness is real-recognized by the US Government, National Institutes of Health, as a brain disease. Yet, everyday individuals who suffer from mental illness are arrested, thrown in jail or even killed by our Law enforcement system. This must STOP! We can and must do better. Our court system does not know how to handle these individuals and treats them like criminals. Most people do not understand what it means to suffer from this horrible controlling disease until it either happens to them personally or a member of their family. I call it the invisible disease. Many times, the first time it is recognized, the individual who suffers is arrested or even worse, dead. We must do better for the sake of all of those who suffer and their families. How we treat those with mental illness impacts us as a community and a Nation. If we are able to take preemptive measures and treat those who suffer perhaps we can turn their stories into successes. Help the mentally ill overcome this disease, try to understand it and help to find treatments that help them in living a productive life.
